SUBASHIRI TRAIL INFORMATION
The Subashiri trail is a great option if you're looking to avoid crowds and enjoy a more local Mt. Fuji climbing experience. The trail starts on the east side of Mt.Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture and boasts the highest tree line of any trail on Mt. Fuji, protecting hikers from the sun until about 2,700 m / 8,858 ft.
The Subashiri trail is a great choice if you are planning a visit to Hakone before or after your climb, as it is the closest and most easily accessed trail to this popular onsen district.
Away from the crowds of the Yoshida Trail, the Subashiri Trail is a hidden gem.

AccessSee the Google Maps link to the Subashiri trail head here. Note that driving up to the Subashiri 5th station in private vehicles is prohibited during the entire climbing season from July 10-September 10. If you're driving your own vehicle, you will need to use the parking lot here and take one of the shuttle buses up to the Subashiri 5th Station.
There are also regular buses that go up to the Subashiri trail from Gotemba Train station. However, bus departure times and prices are only shown in obscure, complicated PDF's in Japanese online. If you can't figure out the bus, call the information center here and they can probably help out. |
