The group will depart Tokyo by private vehicle, making our way to the Subashiri 5th station via Gotemba station. Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts

Mountain huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as emergency shelters and exist to this day as shelters from harsh mountain conditions. All huts offer simple dorm style accommodation. Because the mission of the huts is to provide safety and shelter to as many hikers as possible, it is not possible to pay for extra space. The huts provide the essential shelter and food you need to reach Mt. Fuji's summit.

It is important to note that huts on Mt. Fuji, including Fujisan Hotel, do not provide a heated dry room for drying out wet gear. Be sure to climb with spare, dry clothes kept in dry bags so you will have a change of clothes in the event you show up at the mountain hut in wet weather.

Sleeping Quarters

  • Sleeping mats with sleeping bags and pillows are provided by the mountain hut.
  • Most sleeping quarters have bunk beds that are two to three levels, each fitting 20-30 people per level.
  • Going to the bathroom can be a challenge involving stepping over other guests and climbing down the bunk bed ladders. Be careful!
  • Multiple climbing parties will sleep in the same room. We recommend bringing ear plugs!

Hut Facilities

  • Western-style toilets.
  • Dinner is served inside a large room with table seating.
  • There are no trash cans. All personal trash must be packed out and disposed of off the mountain.
  • There is NO dry room!

Food and Snacks

The 2-day Mt. Fuji tour includes one dinner on Day 1 (hot Japanese curry rice) and one breakfast on Day 2 (various noodle/rice bowl options) served through a mountain hut. Mountain huts only serve Japanese food such as curry rice, noodles, udon, miso soup, etc. If you are not able to eat Japanese food we ask that you buy food previous to the hike and bring it up with you. A vegetarian option is available for dinner on Day 1.

You will need to provide 2 lunches on your own. Lunch on day 1 will be part way through our climb and can be  purchased and eaten at one of the mountain huts located along the trail. Lunch on day 2 will be eaten at a mountain hut following the descent, where many rice bowl, noodle, vegetarian and meat lover options are available. You will need to pack snacks for each day of your climb.

Vegetarian/Halal

A vegetarian curry as well as a Halal meal are available upon request for dinner. Vegetarian/Halal requests can be made within the booking form.

Vegan and gluten free options are not available
If you don't see your question below, check out this page for more answers!
Where does the tour leave from and how do I get there?
The tour departure location and time is listed in the itinerary page for each respective tour. Here are links to the Two Day Mt. Fuji Tour itinerary and Off Season Two Day Mt. Fuji Tour itinerary.
All Fuji tours depart
in front of Tochomae Station (pronounced "Toe-cho-ma-é) on the Toei Oedo line. How do you get here? Check out our access page here which has very thorough directions on how to get to the meetup point. We'll meet right in front of the only ticket machines inside this station. For those staying in the Mt. Fuji area, there is also the option of getting picked up at Gotemba train station. You can find more information about the Gotemba station pick up on the Gotemba station access page here.
What level of fitness should I be in?
Visit Fuji Mountain Guides' physical fitness guide page and come ready to tackle Mt. Fuji. They've provided a detailed program to help you prepare for your Mt. Fuji ascent.
What sort of equipment will I need?
Good question. Check out Fuji Mountain Guides' equipment lists for a complete guide on what to bring on your climb up Mt. Fuji.
How long does it take to get up and down Mt. Fuji?
On the in-season two-day tours, the climb to the summit is spread out over two days. On Day 1 you'll hike about 6 km to the lodging for the night (3,400 meters) in about 6-7 hours. From here to the summit on Day 2, it is about a 1 1/2-hour climb and the descent to the 5th station tends to be 3-4 hours. These are just approximations, as the time it takes to hike up and down Mt. Fuji varies from group to group.
