Regarding Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts |
|
Mountain huts on Mt. Fuji were originally built as emergency shelters and exist to this day as shelters from harsh mountain conditions. All huts offer simple dorm style accommodation. Because the mission of the huts is to provide safety and shelter to as many hikers as possible, it is not possible to pay for extra space. The huts provide the essential shelter and food you need to reach Mt. Fuji's summit.
It is important to note that huts on Mt. Fuji, including Fujikan, do not provide a heated dry room for drying out wet gear. Be sure to climb with spare, dry clothes kept in dry bags so you will have a change of clothes in the event you show up at the mountain hut in wet weather. |

Trail Maps |
Fujikan mountain hut is located at the summit of Mt. Fuji at 3,740m/12,270ft, sitting at the top of the Fujinomiya trail. Although Fujikan can be accessed by any of the 4 trails leading to the summit (Yoshida, Subashiri, Gotemba and Fujinomiya) it is easiest and fastest to access Fujikan via the Fujinomiya trail. From the Yoshida or Subashiri trails it is an additional 30min traverse from where these trails reach the summit. To reach your hut by 4pm it is recommended that you leave the Fujinomiya 5th station by 8am.
The Fujinomiya trail is the shortest and most direct route to the summit of Mt. Fuji, making it a popular choice for climbers who want to reach the top with the least amount of distance. The trail starts on the south side of Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture at the highest elevation of any Mt. Fuji trail head, beginning at 2,400m.
The Fujinomiya trail is a great choice if you are traveling to Kyoto or Osaka before or after your climb, as it is the closest and most easily accessed trail from the Kansai region.
While it can be slightly busier than the Subashiri or Gotemba trails, the Fujinomiya trail is an excellent option for climbers looking for the most efficient route to the summit and crater rim of Mt. Fuji.
